The simplest focus timer for Mac (no app window needed)
A focus timer should be quicker to start than the distraction it protects you from. Most aren’t: open an app, find the window, set the time, then lose the window behind everything else.
Your options on a Mac
- Siri: “Set a timer for 25 minutes.” Fast, but the countdown is out of sight.
- The Clock app: a proper timer, in a window you’ll cover up.
- Pomodoro apps: great if you want sessions, breaks and stats; heavier if you just want a countdown.
- A timer in the notch: always visible, never in the way.
How peeq’s timer works
- Click the notch to open Home and choose the timer tab.
- Tap 5, 10, 15 or 25 minutes, or drag the ruler to any time.
- A ring counts down beside the notch while you work.
- Swipe over it to add or take away a minute.
- When it’s done, a pill drops out of the notch so you won’t miss it.
A simple Pomodoro routine
Set 25 minutes, work on one thing, take 5. After four rounds, take a longer break. That’s it. You don’t need an app with streaks to do it.
Why the notch is the right place
The top of the screen is where your eyes go anyway. A small ring there is easy to glance at and impossible to lose behind a window. And it uses almost no battery.
